Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is one of those films that I instantly enjoyed. It is truly intriguing, like just when you're sure that something is going to happen, it doesn't. But then you won't get disappointed, because it's better than how you expected it to turn out, or maybe totally different.

Not only is this film intriguing, but it also is very entertaining, and sexy. Entertaining in the sense that adventure, and Spanish culture were vibrantly present throughout - art, scenery, language, you name it. And it also is sexy, because of the cast, and their characters: Scarlett Johansson as Cristina, the carefree, adventurous best friend of Rebecca Hall, who plays Vicky, an uptight woman, who gradually comes loose as the story progresses, Penelope Cruz as Maria Elena, the beautiful, artistic, but crazy ex-wife of the equally artistic, romantic, and passionate Juan Antonio, played by Javier Bardem. These characters have created an unlikely togetherness which surpringsingly worked out, well enough to bring the film to where it needed to be.

Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire (2009)

Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire is THE MOST SAD, YET MOST POWERFUL, INSPIRING AND MOVING FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, and I am saying this from the very core of my heart. I sound exaggerated right now, but it is very, very, very true!!!!!!!!! There are no words to reiterate the effect that this film had on me. It's like I want to watch it again, and again, but I seem to just can't, because it's just too sad. I was already teary-eyed from the beginning, and found myself crying so hard by the end, that I used up 5 sheets of tissue paper (and my shirt, and blanket) to wipe my tears. Hahaha!

What made this film powerful is that it tackled possible human experiences that most people find unimaginable, and that it was able to grasp, and show the essence of this unimaginable reality to the most fitting audience, to drag them into this passionate, and heart-warming story of a smart, innocent, unfortunate girl with simple dreams of happiness, and a loving heart.
